I was a placed in many different juvenile detention facilities when I was a teenager, as a runaway. I spent many years running from placements and group homes. During those times I would often get involved with many other illegal and often dangerous activities. I allowed myself tobe in so many harmful situations.
I finally found myself when I was sent away to a school in Utah, but that was when one of the hardest parts of my life began. Figuring out what to do with myself after you age out of the system. There was no type of help or support. I had no plan. I did get plenty of therapy and skills but not much experience on applying them. I felt like I was thrown to the wolves, and I went right back to my old tricks. It's so easy to go back to the streets when you have no plans for anything else.
I created a program because I want to be part of the solution. I want young women to know that life does not have to end on the bad chapter. That life is a story that can be rewritten, not erased. These skill building workshops will give young ladies necessary tools to help them succeed when they return to society, and also tools to help keep calm while under pressure.
